10.01.09: Festival Fundraising

From The Friends of the Westhampton Memorial Library in Westhampton:

"On Sunday afternoon, October 18th the annual Fall Festival will take place in the center of town on the field behind the future library – same site as the past three years, but slightly smaller field! You’ll be amazed at what fun we can have on this field – with some expansion to neighboring lawns. The event is free with small charges for some of the activities. Come see how the new library construction is progressing and join the festivities.

The event starts at 12:30 with a repeat of the Westhampton Hills 5K race starting from the Town Hall; other events start at 1:00 and end about sundown with a bonfire sing-along. Throughout the afternoon there will be foods for snacking and lunch – look for soups, sandwiches, homemade pies, donuts and more. A community supper will be served at 4:30, followed by a bonfire sing-along.

With an eye to history, you’ll see antique tractors, watch a blacksmith at work, tour the History Museum, take a guided walk around our historic town center, and climb to the top of the church steeple. There will be music throughout the afternoon as young and old folks enjoy scarecrow making, games, crafts, cider making, a woodsman’s demonstration, young oxen demonstration, and squash hurling with a home made trebuchet.

Do you have a really big pumpkin? Bring it to the field and have it weighed; you might win the Largest Pumpkin contest! How’s you luck at Cow Pie Bingo? This is your chance to win big!! Prizes of $100, $75 and $50 will be awarded; tickets are on sale for $5 prior to the festival and during the event as long as supplies last. And don’t miss the chance to buy Jim Armenti’s CD of library songs and one of the special Fall Festival T-shirts!

At 4:00 the annual favorite pumpkin roll down Stage Road will be a highlight of the day. The event will be led off with Jim Armenti’s song from his Great Pumpkin Roll CD. If you’ve been part of this in the past you’ll surely come again; if you’ve never witnessed it you really must be there!

This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Westhampton Memorial Library as part of the capital campaign and as a treat for the community. It’s a great chance to come together, meet new neighbors, and have a fun filled afternoon. If it should rain, come with your umbrella and we’ll go ahead with as many events as possible using the town hall and church as indoor venues."
